Dear Friend,

We’re happy that you are interested in applying for membership in our church. We welcome your willingness to consider joining us and participating more fully with us in our church growth and activities. Church membership brings many blessings as well as responsibilities that bless our church as a whole and as individuals.

You can choose to fill out the application below or print off the application to fill it out and bring it to church.

If you fill out the online form, it will be automatically emailed to our membership committee and we look forward to getting in touch with you soon.

If you prefer to download and print the application, you’ll find in the download packet:

  • A listing of the committees and activities that are available to our members

When you’re ready to submit your printed application, you may give it to any member of the membership committee, any usher or to our clerk. The chair of the committee will be in touch with you to arrange an informal meeting conversation with the Membership Committee so we can have an opportunity to become better acquainted.

If you would like to read our church bylaws, please feel free to be in touch with the clerk, or with the Membership chair to request that a digital copy be emailed to you. Or, if you prefer, you may read a printed copy located in our Reading Room in the church.

Upon becoming a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Creve Coeur, you will have the following responsibilities according to Article I, Section 4, of the church standing rules:

  • To be introduced to the members by the membership committee as soon after joining as possible.
  • To study and be familiar with the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Manual of The Mother Church, and the other writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
  • To attend regularly the Sunday services, Wednesday meetings, and business meetings of this church.
  • To keep the business of this church confidential.
  • To notify the clerk of any change of address, of membership in The Mother Church, and of class instruction.
  • To support this church actively, prayerfully, and financially.
  • To abide by the bylaws and standing rules.
  • To be given 24/7 access to a lock box for a key to the reading room.
  • To participate on church committees. A complete list of active committees and their purpose will be given to each new member by the clerk.

Application for Membership

In accordance with Article I, Section 1, of our bylaws, you must meet the following qualifications to be considered for membership. In signing this application for membership, you acknowledge that:

  • I believe in and practice the teachings of Christian Science as presented in what Mary Baker Eddy refers to as the platform (Science and Health, Pages 330-340).
  • I accept the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Manual of The Mother Church, and the other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, as my “only textbooks for self-instruction in Christian Science, and for teaching and practicing metaphysical healing.” (See Manual 34:17)
  • I am not a member of another church denomination or religious organization other than the Church of Christ, Scientist.
  • I fully subscribe to the tenets of Christian Science (Science and Health, Page 497:3-27):
      1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.
      2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ, the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God’s image and likeness.
      3. We acknowledge God’s forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in  sin is punished so long as the belief lasts.
      4. We acknowledge Jesus’ atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man’s unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.
      5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.
      6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just and pure.
